Community FAQs

How can I join HVWC?

To become a member, individuals must pay an annual membership fee, sign a waiver, and fill out a membership form. Memberships activate upon payment of the annual membership fee and providing the required information regardless of when the member joins and ends on August 31st each year. Use our Membership page to get started.

How do I rejoin each year?

Members who wish to continue with active membership status in HVWC will have the opportunity to renew their annual membership each year on September 1 by paying their annual membership fee and completing a new membership form.

Why do I have to pay a fee?
HVWC applies a fee to account for operational expenses, including but not limited to jersey, sock, and special event payments as well as insurance.
How do I get an Official Jersey?
To guarantee a jersey, you must register by November 1st.
Is racing required?
Racing is not a requirement to join the community.
Can I join if I am under 18?
Any individual 18 or younger who wants to join must be approved by the board and have parental consent. We usually do not accept members under 18, but we may consider them case-by-case at the board’s discretion.
If I'm not a member, can I still join HVWC's Monday night rides?

Yes, you will be required to fill out a liability form and are welcome to join in our Monday night rides and open events.

Racing FAQs

What if I want to race for HVWC?
If each member approves, member names can be listed on the website, provided you meet the requirements.
How can I be recognized as an HVWC racer?
After completing four races and one year as a member, members can be listed as an “HVWC racer” with a racer profile on the HVWC website if desired. To maintain an active profile on the HVWC website as a racer, a member must participate in four races per previous membership year.
At which races/events can I represent HVWC?
All active members can race in any cycling, running, triathlon, fitness event, competition, or community events under the HVWC name.
What types of races qualify for the four required races to be listed as a racer on the website?
All timed races that involve cycling, including road cycling, triathlon, and aqua bike.
What happens if I become injured and can't race four races?

If a racer member is injured, they will be given a one-year grace period to remain listed as a racer. Their web profile will be removed if the requirement is not restored the following year. In this case, to have a racing member web profile restored, the original requirement must be met (complete four faces per membership year while maintaining active membership status).

Board FAQs

What is an HVWC Board Member?
HVWC has a governing body of eight Board Members which include the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and four additional “Director” Board Member roles. Additionally, the Community has several “Community Officer” roles that help support the planning, operation, and delivery of HVWC Community programming.
What is a Community Officer?
HVWC Community Officers are distinct from Board Members and will help in key roles to ensure the smooth planning, operation, and delivery of HVWC Community events throughout the year. The Community Officer “Lead” and “Supporter” roles reflect a distributed leadership model that promotes diversity of ideas, shares the burden of tasks across our Community, builds confidence, and gives members an opportunity to be involved at higher levels of responsibility and leadership that align with their interests.
Do the board officers get paid?
No, these are volunteer positions.
How are board officers decided?
Board members are decided upon by election.
Who nominates a board member?
Any current community member in good standing can nominate themselves or another member in good standing for an open Board Member position.
Who can be on the board?
All Community Members in good standing with at least one year of membership are eligible to hold any position on the Board.
How long can a board member be in position?
Each Board Member will have a two-year term. After this period, nominations and voting will take place. The term limit is three two-year cycles in a given position.
